    Assess the material stream

    Tell us what you are holding and we quantify it: composition, contamination, volumes, seasonality, and what disposal currently costs you. Most streams fail recycling for one specific reason. The assessment finds that reason, because the right fix depends entirely on it.

    Match it to a recovery route

    Every material gets the most honest route available: an existing recycler where markets exist, densification where freight is the barrier, thermal conversion where nothing else works, and landfill only as a last resort you can defend. You see the reasoning, the destinations, and the cost against what you pay today.

    Run the program with documentation

    Once the route is set, the program runs on a schedule with records to match: weights, destinations, and diversion reporting you can put in front of a council, a board, or an EPR auditor. You stop explaining the pile and start reporting on it.

General Recycling Programs

Recovery programs for the streams your current contracts leave behind.

The problem

Every operation has a residual pile that standard recycling contracts refuse: mixed loads, contaminated bales, materials with no local market. It sits in yards, eats bin space, and gets landfilled by default. Nobody owns the problem, so it never gets solved.

Our approach

We start with what is actually in your stream, not with what a facility wants to receive. Each material maps to a realistic recovery route: existing recyclers where markets exist, thermal conversion where they do not, and landfill only when nothing else is honest. We are building the first programs now and actively seeking municipal and commercial anchor streams across BC.

EPS-02

EPS Foam

Densification turns a material that is mostly air into one worth shipping.

The problem

EPS foam is roughly 98 percent air, so hauling it loose rarely pays. Most transfer stations either refuse it or landfill it, where it crumbles, blows, and fills airspace far out of proportion to its weight.

Our approach

Densification changes the math. Compressing foam near where it accumulates cuts its volume by an order of magnitude and turns a freight liability into a dense commodity that plastics remanufacturers actually buy. We are developing collection and densification programs for depots, retailers, and municipalities in BC, and looking for partners with steady foam volumes to anchor the first routes.

MAT-03

Mattress Recycling

A documented route for the units your landfill will not take.

The problem

Metro Vancouver banned mattresses from its landfills in 2011, and roughly 90,000 units a year still arrive at regional facilities. Mattresses remain outside BC's EPR system, so municipalities and haulers carry the cost and logistics themselves.

Our approach

Mattresses come apart into steel, foam, fibre, and wood, and each component has its own best route. We are designing dismantling-based recovery programs and seeking regional processing partners, with wood and fibre fractions routed to thermal conversion where reuse markets fall short. Every unit is counted and documented, so councils and boards can see exactly where their fees went.

AGW-04

Agricultural Waste

Wood and organic residues become stable soil carbon instead of smoke.

The problem

Prunings, cull wood, shelterbelt trimmings, and processing residues mostly get burned in the open or buried. Open burning is increasingly restricted across BC, hauling to landfill is expensive, and chipping only moves the pile.

Our approach

Controlled thermal processing converts clean wood and organic residues into stable carbon products that return to soil, where they improve water retention and hold carbon for the long term. We are developing regional programs that aggregate farm and processor residues into feedstock for this conversion, and seeking growers, packers, and regional districts as pilot partners.

AGP-05

Agricultural Plastics

A recovery route for bale wrap, silage film, and twine.

The problem

Canadian farms use nearly 62,000 tonnes of plastic a year, and only about one tenth is collected for recycling. Bale wrap, silage film, and twine are dirty, tangled, and light for their bulk, so most of it ends up landfilled, stockpiled behind the barn, or burned in a pit.

Our approach

Used ag plastics need collection points that fit farm logistics, not urban depots. We are designing regional aggregation programs where film and twine are consolidated, baled, and matched to recyclers where markets exist, with heavily contaminated fractions assessed for thermal conversion rather than burial. We are seeking producer groups and regional districts to co-develop the first collection pilots.

Common questions

Do you already operate your own processing facilities?

Not yet, and we say so plainly. PyrolTech+ is the recycling programs arm of PyrolTech, a Vancouver cleantech company, and we are building the first programs now through pilots and partnerships. The early model is assessment, logistics design, and processing through partner facilities, with PyrolTech's own thermal conversion capacity planned as volumes justify it. If you need a partner who will grow a route with you, that is exactly the stage we are at.

Is thermal conversion the same as incineration?

No. Incineration burns material in open air to get rid of it. Controlled thermal processing heats material in a low-oxygen environment to recover something from it, typically a stable carbon product that can go back into soil. The goal is recovered material and retained carbon, not ash and disposal. Where a stream is better served by mechanical recycling, we route it there instead.

How does a program get priced?

Against what disposal already costs you. We start from your current tipping fees, hauling, and handling, then design the program to land at or below that number wherever the material allows. Some streams carry real recovery value that offsets cost; others are simply cheaper to divert than to bury. The assessment puts both numbers side by side before you commit to anything.

We have EPR or take-back obligations in BC. How does this help?

With documented routes and numbers you can report. BC's extended producer responsibility framework keeps expanding, and obligated producers and retailers need to show where returned materials actually went. Our programs are built with that reporting in mind: weights in, destinations out, and a defensible route for the fractions that mainstream recyclers refuse.

What volumes do you need to start a program?

Less than you might think, because early pilots are about proving the route, not filling a plant. A steady stream matters more than a large one: a transfer station's weekly foam, one region's mattress flow, one growing district's bale wrap. If your volumes are small, we may aggregate you with neighbouring generators. The assessment is the right place to find out.

The pile is not going to solve itself.
